I am a waterfall lover 😃! Anywhere I travel, I am always looking for a waterfall. I have been blessed to find several on each Hawaiian 🌺 island that I have visited. This particular one that I am sharing, is by far the tallest waterfall that I have ever seen. It is located on the Big Island and it is called Akaka Falls😃! Hope that you enjoyed the video😃! As you can tell from the video, it was not a very sunny day 😂. Actually it was raining 🌧 a lot on that day, so it was a wet hike to Kahuna Falls. Thankfully the hike wasn’t very far. I parked on the outside of the park, paid the fee and entered the park. The place where this waterfall is located is called the Akaka State Park located in Hilo, Hawaii.
Hilo is located on the Big Island 🏝 of Hawaii. From my hotel 🏨, it took about an hour and 30 minutes 😀to get to Akaka Falls State Park. It was so well worth the drive😃! It was such an incredible experience and certainly one that I definitely recommend to any tourist visiting the island.
If you love waterfalls and would love to see one on an excursion, I suggest seeking out waterfalls that may be close to where you live, or take a trip, like I did, to see one for yourself 😎. I am a believer of exploring the world 🌎 and all of its beauty. Waterfalls are certainly unlike anything else on earth 🌍!

This sight was just phenomenal🤩. I could not believe my own eyes. Such a wonderful sight. If you haven’t seen a waterfall, make sure you plan to do so. It could be as massive as this one or even smaller than the one above. The great thing about Hawaii is that waterfalls abound almost on every single island 🏝.
This particular one is called Akaka Falls and it is located in the Akaka Falls State Park in Hilo, Hawaii. Hilo is at a higher elevation than the rest of the Big Island 🏝 of Hawaii, so get ready for mountain elevation. The air tends to be a lot thinner in the mountains 🏔 as I discovered when hiking to see this waterfall 😂. I was panting a lot – since I was not accustomed to higher elevations.
It was an adventure that I would absolutely do again. I always love to see new places and experience new things. Certainly some the great opportunities that travel affords you!
Waterfall Vibes – So Amazing 🤩!
Who doesn’t love a beautiful waterfall? Of course, everyone does. There is just something about seeing the water fall from different elevations that really appeals to is as human beings😊! In fact, we like it so much that the sounds of waterfalls is often used to either generate calmness in us and/or sleepiness. We are fans of waterfalls and we cannot get enough of seeing them.
If you have followed this blog for some time, you know that I am a huge fan of waterfalls. Both times that I have visited Hawaii, it was to chase waterfalls. Thankfully 😅 I not only chased them but also captured video of them to be used on this blog and shared widely on social media. Although my experience with waterfalls have been entirely in Hawaii, waterfalls exist in other places of the world 🌎. Feel free to explore waterfalls closer to where you may live. They are such beautiful natural wonders! I plan to explore other places of the world 🌎 to chase additional waterfalls in the near future!

Kauai is truly heaven on earth 🌍! If you have never been, please consider traveling there in the future. It is one of the best Hawaiian Islands to visit. The waterfalls are truly superb😃! If you have followed this blog, you know that I am indeed a waterfall chaser. I am Water Fall Chaser ESQ😂! After seeing these natural wonders for the first time on last year (up close and personal) I am indeed hooked now 😃. The experience is totally jaw dropping and you must see one to believe how majestic they truly are.
The canyons are such an amazing sight also. You will be totally blown away by the beautiful nature that is relatively untouched on this island and others. The Hawaiian Government does a great job of preserving the nature of Hawaii which makes it more and more beautiful. If you are looking to take a break from the concrete jungle of the USA mainland, look no further than Kauai – which is truly heaven on earth😃🌍!

Akaka Falls State Park is as an absolute dream 😴. After seeing so many posts down through the years about waterfalls, this park provided me the perfect opportunity to see waterfalls up close and personal. It is just a magnificent waterfall for sure. The name of this one is Kahuna Falls, and it is a big kahuna 😂! This particular day, I braved the very heavy rain 🌧 in order to see this beautiful sight. Once you park on-site, you have to hike the rest of the way to see the waterfalls.
As I have mentioned before in a previous post, the waterfalls are at higher elevations so it will certainly test your conditioning. I remember huffing and puffing 😮💨 as I went from one waterfall to the other. I made it safely to both and was able to capture beautiful videos as a result.
The “Big Kahuna” was so beautiful and it is the smaller of the waterfalls that are located there. Feel free to check my previous posts for a look at the even bigger Kahuna – Akaka Falls. It is truly ginormous! 😃🙌

Such a beautiful scene😻. Hard to believe that I got this close to one. In Akaka State Park in Hawaii, there are two: Akaka Falls (this one) and Kalua Falls. They are so incredible to see in person. You will be completely blown away by the beauty!
Before going to this park, I had never seen a waterfall before other than in videos posted online. I was determined that this would be the trip that I would have this experience. I looked up the directions from my hotel room and made the trek to boldly go where I had never gone before 😂.
What I did not realize at the time is how mountainous the Big Island of Hawaii is. As I got to higher elevations, my ears were popping and the road seemed more and more winding. When I saw the “Watch out for falling rocks” signs, uh 🙄 I got a little nervous 😬.
Thankfully 😅, I did not encounter any falling rocks 🪨 along the way but I captured some unbelievable views from within the park. It was a dream come true! 😃

Doesn’t it look heavenly? 😃 I could go see this waterfall again. This is Kahuna Falls which is located in the Akaka Falls State Park in Hilo, Hawaii. It was so exciting hiking 🥾 to this beautiful location. Rules of the park do not allow you to hike down to the waterfall but to observe it from a lookout point which is where I am standing while looking at this beautiful wonder of nature!
One thing to consider when visiting this park is that it is definitely at a higher mountain elevation. If you have not visited the mountains before, it takes a different type of conditioning – which you will notice as you hike there. I found myself huffing and puffing after hiking a short while.

This waterfall is located in Hilo, Hawaii and it is so beautiful 😻! Cannot believe that I got to stand that close to the waterfall. It is truly incredible. No other experience could possibly come close to this great feeling. This is one of those memories that is permanently burned into your brain forever 😂! Certainly memories you can share with your grandchildren.
If waterfalls are your thing, consider the Big Island of Hawaii for your next island adventure. You only live once, and if you do it right, once is enough 😂
